Weekly Devotional Helps, August 17-23

There are many different opinions on who Jesus WAS. It is hard to find a person who claims that there was never a man named Jesus walking around the earth 2,000 years ago. The question many have revolves around who Jesus WAS. The Muslims and Jews have their own statements about who Jesus WAS. They both fall short of calling Him God. Peter’s confession in our text says, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” May we continually echo Peter’s confession of who Jesus IS.

Collect for the Twelfth Sunday after Pentecost–

Almighty God, whom to know is everlasting life, grant us to know Your Son, Jesus, to be the way, the truth, and the life that we may boldly confess Him to be the Christ and steadfastly walk in the way that leads to life eternal; through the same Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Small Catechism- (If you want, try and memorize this by next Sunday.)

From The Daily Prayers- Returning Thanks (after a meal)- Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good. His love endures forever. [He] gives food to every creature. He provides food for the cattle and for the young ravens when they call. His pleasure is not in the strength of the horse, nor His delight in the legs of a man; the LORD delights in those who fear Him, who put their hope in His unfailing love. (Ps. 136:1, 25; 147:9-11) Then shall be said the Lord’s Prayer and the following: We thank You, Lord God, heavenly Father, for all Your benefits, through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit forever and ever. Amen. (3rd grade +)
