Devotional Helps, November 9-15

We are coming to the end. I am not talking about what is going on in our country, as I am typing this while ballots are still being counted. We are coming to the end of the church year and the end of the world. The end of the world has been promised since the words of preparation were uttered by Jesus. It will come. When? That is an answer only God knows. May we always be prepared for the return of our Savior.

Collect for the Twenty-fourth Sunday after Pentecost

Almighty and ever-living God, You have given exceedingly great and precious promises to those who trust in You. Dispel from us the works of darkness and grant us to live in the light of Your Son, Jesus Christ, that our faith may never be found wanting; through the same Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Small Catechism- (If you want, try and memorize this by next Sunday.)

(From the Table of Duties)- To Workers of All Kinds- “Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ. Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you, but like slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart. Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not men, because you know that the Lord will reward everyone for whatever good he does, whether he is slave or free.” (Ephesians 6:5-8)

To Employers and Supervisors- “Masters, treat your slaves in the same way. Do not threaten them, since you know that He who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is no favoritism with Him.” (Ephesians 6:9) (5th grade +)

Weekly Hymn of Emphasis- LSB 562 All Mankind Fell in Adam’s Fall

Helpful prayers from the Lutheran Prayer Companion this week- 34, 37, 263, 288, 302
